Learning diary of the Creating a comic Intef NOOC.
Objective:
At the end of the NOOC you will create a comic related with some of the content of the curriculum in order to use it in your lessons.
My first impressions
Learning a long list of words can be a daunting task in any subject. Hopefully, thanks to this activity, my students will be able to remember some French verbs which are used with the verb «être» (to be) instead of «avoir» (to have) when transformed into the past tense.
Create your own comic
Topic of the comic:
French verbs in the past tense.
Aim of the Curriculum work in the comic:
I would like my students to remember some French verbs which need the verb «être» when conjugated in the past tense. In order to achieve that, I will use two mnemonic techniques:
- I will create a story with a list of verbs used with «être» in the past in context. If students can remember the story, they will be able to remember the verbs more easily.
- The main character’s name will be an acronym of these special verbs in French used with the verb «être» in the past. Her name is Sam Tremvand:
- Sortir
- Arriver
- Mourir
- Tomber
- Rester
- Entrer
- Monter
- Venir
- Aller
- Naître
- Devenir

I will print off this comic and hand it out to students who will have to do the activity in the last cell: classify the verbs in the columns.
Final reflection
I have thoroughly enjoyed creating this comic. I struggled to find an idea at the beginning, but then I thought how difficult it was for my students to remember this particular topic. It is a long list of verbs and any memory techniques can help them. I liked using Storyboard That to design the scenario, add the characters and write the texts. I think it is a brilliant tool to create comics. Overall, a lovely experience 🙂
